silly things I've done lately

I've had some very silly moments lately.

I got fairly sick recently. It started mid may and lasted ten days, ending memorial day weekend. Finally, the friday before memorial day (I'd been sick a week and a half at this point), I go to the doctor. I had started with a cold and it settled in my chest. I could not stop coughing. We were pretty busy at work so I didn't take time off (though my coworkers tried to talk me into it, and I probably should have). I'd step into the office to have my racking coughing fits. I lost my voice from the coughing tearing up my throat, so my coworkers took a couple of my school visits. I was actually coughing up stuff. At night, and this was the biggest problem, I wasn't getting any sleep. Nyquil usually puts me out, and I was taking Nyquil cough and still waking up every twenty minutes with a horrible coughing fit. During the daytime, Mucinex wasn't helping much either.

So that friday, I go to the doctor and he gives me cough syrup with codeine in it. I really just want some rest at this point, and I think that if I can sleep I'll go a long way towards a recovery. I misread the directions the first night and instead of taking 1 teaspoon, I take 1 tablespoon. For those of you not on this system, it means I took three times the amount I should have. I'm out like a log, except 2 hours later I wake up convinced my cat is into the trash. I stagger (literally) down the stairs (which are narrow and treacherous, it is a miracle I didn't fall and crack my head open). She's not there, she's upstairs playing in the bathtub. I go back to bed, but the next morning I have a roaring headache. I read the medecine directions more carefully and conclude I most likely am hungover from the cough syrup. The next few days I have off work and administer the medicine more judiciously and I recover.

Stupid thing number two. I'm walking into the concert Friday night on a plain old sidewalk and I fall. Just fall for no particular reason. My roommate thought the sidewalk might have been uneven, so we'll go with that. I just fall all the time. I rip my jeans (no big deal, they were worn out and I'd been expecting them to rip or fall apart at any moment, their sister* jeans had long been torn to shreds), skin one knee and bruise the other, but I catch myself on my hands so I don't completely wipe out. The rest of the night, my roommate helpfully points out all the uneven ground, grates, cords, and such that she feels could pose a danger. Worst part: I love wearing skirts in the summer, and most of my skirts are past knee length, but you can still sometimes see my knees. And I'm nearly 24 (in a few days), I was supposed to have outgrown skinned knees by now. Plus the bruise on the other knee looks really nasty. Oh well, skirts again next week.

*sister jeans = typically when I buy jeans I buy 2 pairs at a time because I hate jean shopping and am usually thrilled when I find a pair/size/style that works. So I'll buy two slightly different colors and call it good. So I refer to these as sister jeans since they were purchased together and usually tend to wear out at the same time. Though this one pair lasted six months past her sister.

My television fell on me today hitting me on the face. The corner of it hit on the part of your nose that is in between your eyes. The other end hit my finger. Both face and finger hurt like hell. Face is turning a not attractive color.

Edited to add I thought of a funny joke... I knew television was bad for you, but I had no idea how much it could hurt...
